    BF4 Friday Night

I'll be there but not at 6PM.

New computer please tell me what you think of the parts

G-Sync is hardware based, and so it's a pricey (but arguably more reliable) addition to a monitor, while FreeSync is software-based. But yeah, it mostly comes down to the vendors trying to lock people into an ecosystem.

I don't see anywhere what the max refresh rate is on that monitor, though the 1ms is nice. The reviews I see online basically boil down to "it's not an IPS display, so color accuracy isn't great and neither is the viewing angle." So overall not bad, given the caveats. If you're willing to pay...

Yeah (NVidia) GPUs have gotten really power efficient these days, but I'm of the opinion that a PSU will perform better and last longer if you aren't running it at 90% capacity. Something in the 800W range seems preferable if you don't mind the extra $20 or whatever.

Depends though. Corsair cases are really well designed, so building with them tends to be a pleasant experience. But then again, if someone else is doing the build...

Looks good! One thing worth considering... while I've never had any problems with them myself, Seagate has caught some flak recently for hard drive failures. I might swap that one out for either a Western Digital Blue SSHD or a WD Black.

    Fragmented

The Unreal engine and Unity are both competing for the small to mid size game market. Most games are made using one of them these days.

    Battleborn!

I *think* the number is the number of degrees from top to bottom or from left to right. But since displays aren't square, 100 degrees from top to bottom equates to 150 degrees from left to right or whatever.

    Battleborn!

Yeah FOV is a tricky business. I tend to stick to 100 because any wider than that and you start to get a fisheye effect. Also, there's vertical and horizontal FOV, which are actually different. 90 vertical is something like 120 horizontal. If I remember correctly, traditionally, games go by...

    Battleborn!

For all games ever, the dev teams need to provide a FOV slider at least to 100 degrees vertical, and checkboxes to disable motion blur, depth of field, etc. And then have the game tested by someone who's prone to motion sickness. In the little time I played Battleborn I didn't actually have any...

    Looking for a new monitor

It's a TN screen. I decided on it after reading a Tom's Hardware review. I considered 1440p at the time, but from what people were saying it sounded like the 970 may struggle a bit on Ultra at that resolution, so I decided to play it safe. If you decide on the AOC, be aware that there's a non...

    Looking for a new monitor

I have this 24" 1080p AOC monitor and love it. I don't think you can find a curved monitor at less than 27", and that's into the 2K+ range which in turn means a super GPU (seems like you want a 980ti to run above 1080p on Ultra).

    Left 4 Dead 2

Unless we get 8, then we could do versus :) I'll have to reinstall, but count me in. I still count L4D1 as one of the best multi games I've ever played (L4D2 landed about the same time the twins did, so I didn't get quite as much time in that one). Oh, this was last night. Well if you play...

Day of the Tentacle - REMASTERED!

Yeah. I've been watching the original Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets (G-Force) with the kids on Hulu. BotP is somewhere along the lines of Voltron and hasn't aged well at all but the kids love it. Very melodramatic and all about teamwork. And my son in particular is super into Star...
